The Directors Letter
Welcome to the Dublin Animation Film Festival for 2016.
This is the sixth year that the Festival has been held in the borough of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and our third year at the lovely Pavilion Theatre! This year we are welcoming Academy Award® nominated Director, Duke Johnson, who will be participating in a Q & A session after the screening of his film ‘Anomalisa’. We would also like to welcome Jennifer Hall and Steve Henderson, directors of Manchester Animation Film Festival, UK and Skwigly – one of the best animation websites in the UK!
Following Duke’s Q & A, we will be showcasing some Irish short animated films created by talented Irish animators and recent animation graduates. As part of the 1916 celebrations, we will be showcasing three films that have been inspired by the Rising – many thanks to WigglyWoo Animation for submitting ‘Don’t Forget the Bread’, Treehouse Republic for ‘Angel of 1916’ and Leonico for ‘Granite and Chalk’. Special thanks to Tim Carey and his team at Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council for their support for these screenings.
It would be impossible to list all of the people who have contributed to the festival over the last six years – so you will find them at www.dublinanimationfilmfestival.com. A big thank-you for your support. Grateful thanks also to this year’s sponsors: Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council, Mutiny Sound, Luminosity and Blackrock Cellar because without this sponsorship there would not have been a festival this year! A big thank-you also to the support shown by Studio HB, Clerky and the Pavilion Theatre!
