Michele Chiappa from Karrot Animation confirmed as Guest Speaker for Dublin Animation Film Festival.
Dublin Animation Film Festival is delighted to announce that Michele Chiappa, the Lead Editor on the BAFTA winning pre-school animated show Sarah & Duck for BBC Worldwide will be giving the opening lecture at Dublin Animation Film Festival 2015. Michele’s lecture entitled Complete Control will focus on the role of the editor in animation. Michele’s lecture will cover the difference between editing animation and live action films, and the importance of the editor’s role in the collaborative experience that is filmmaking. This lecture will be part of a series of lectures taking place on Friday, 16 October 2015 at 10.00 a.m. in the A019 Lecture Theatre in Main Atrium in IADT.
Michele was born and raised in Italy and left for London in 2007 where he graduated with a BA in Digital Film and Video and an MA in Editing from the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. Michele credits NFTS for the development of his storytelling instincts into a professional editing approach that is applicable to a wide range of film genres as well as many enduring friendships and working relationships.
Michele acted as the editor for the Student Academy Award winning short Miss Todd which was also selected for the Annie Awards, Raindance, Anima Mundi and Annecy. His first feature film, Io, Arlecchino is currently enjoying successful distribution both in Italy and worldwide. His special interest in animation led to his current position of Lead Editor at Karrot Animation.
Commenting on the festival from Michele: ‘I was involved with the editing of the DAFF 2014 Festival reel and I am delighted to be taking part as a Guest Speaker at DAFF 2015. It will be great to catch up with Kristina Yee, the director of Miss Todd, who is one of the curators for the Irish Retrospective screenings. It will be great to see the Irish shorts.’
